Freshman Played in Six Games for the Huskies This Year

STORRS, Conn. – Freshman guard Sadie Edwards has decided to transfer from the University of Connecticut women’s basketball program, as announced by head coach Geno Auriemma on Tuesday.

“Sadie is a great kid who will be missed by the coaching staff and her teammates,” Auriemma said.  “Getting to know Sadie and her family has been a pleasure but she has voiced her desire to play more and we have come to the mutual agreement that this can best be accomplished at a different school.  I wish Sadie nothing but the best in the future.”

Edwards will complete her final exams this week prior to finalizing her transfer.

The Meriden, Conn. native played in six games, averaging 4.8 minutes per contest.

It would seem that after this decision by Edwards, Geno Auriemma will use the additional scholarship for the 2016 class (instead of looking for a Spring  signee from 2015′ class ).

He already has 2016′ commitments from PG CRYSTAL DANGERFIELD  (Murfreesboro, TN ) &  Forward KYLA IRWIN ( Lemont, PA ).  It has been believed he was looking get 1 more player, a Post player  from that class (ie, Lauren Cox from Texas, Tori McCoy from Illinois).

It would now appear Geno will be back in the market for a perimeter player from that class. Sabrina Ionescu from California (a Top 10 ranked player by  Hoopgurlz.com ) is one Guard that had been previously coveted by the Staff.
